Social Media Agency Blog

Do you need a social media agency?

If you’re reading this, you’ve probably already come to the conclusion you need help with your social media. Firstly, rest assured: you are not alone.

A 2016 survey found that over 40% of organisations now outsource all or part of their social media while a reported 60% outsource content marketing, which often includes social content. The rise of social advertising is also encouraging companies to seek specialist external support.

With the increasing breadth and sophistication of social media content, advertising, targeting, tracking, analytics and technology platforms – this is really no surprise. While in 2012 you could conceivably have one person managing social media for a sizeable brand, 2017 is a very different era.

Facebook advertising alone was worth over $26 billion last year and reported 70% of marketers are planning to increase their spend on social media during 2017. Social media marketing has moved from the domain of underpaid, overworked enthusiasts to one of well-paid, experienced practitioners.

That said, the range of organisations offering social media marketing as a service is vast. You’ll find that web development agencies, PR agencies and even some HR agencies will offer to manage your social presence, for a small fee. Digital marketing agencies whose experience lies squarely in SEO or PPC are often prepared to chance their arm at social too.

To help you navigate these choppy waters, we've compiled a list of questions for you to ask yourself before you start looking for a social media agency (e.g. Why don't we do it in-house?) and questions you need to ask an agency you're considering working with (e.g. what strategy do you recommend?).

These questions - and our tips on what the answers should be - are all available now in our free e-book: How to choose a social media agency. We hope it's helpful and saves you a lot of time!
